Apple announced Mac OS X El Capitan in the recent WWDC. The latest OS X 10.11 will be launched by fall for public. Beta version is already rolled out. If you have Mac, you will be able download and install Mac OS X El Capitan only if the hardware is supported. But don't worry, almost all the Macs from the past 5-6 years will support the latest OS X. Apple is giving a loose system requirement to inculcate maximum users. However, if you want to truly enjoy El Capitan's latest features and design, the best way is to use it on a latest Mac. OS X El Capitan system requirements are not much hard. Here is a rough list of all the Mac models which will support OS X 10.11.

Feb 15, 2020 September 20, 2016, Apple released Mac OS Sierra and changed the minimum system requirements of its operating system. September 30, 2015, Apple released Mac OS X 10.11, El Capitan. December 8, 2015: Apple fixed issues with Image Capture scanning that existed with 10.11.0, and 10.11.1, with the release of 10.11.2 at least for the Canon Pixma. If you're running High Sierra (10.13), Sierra (10.12), or El Capitan (10.11), upgrade to macOS Catalina from the App Store. If you're running Lion (10.7) or Mountain Lion (10.8), you will need to upgrade to El Capitan (10.11) first. If you don't have broadband access, you can upgrade your Mac at any Apple Store.

MacBook Air (2008 and above)

If you want to find out the year of manufacturing for your Mac hardware, you can do so by following the steps given below.

Go to  Apple menu

Click About this Mac > Overview. You will see model and year here.

Apple further elaborates that all those machines which were running Mac OS X Yosemite, Mavericks will be able to upgrade to Mac OS X El Capitan. Not only this, those machines will get at least two times faster than before, because El Capitan is coming with huge optimizations and fixes.
